ADRIAN RAESIDE
Born 1957 in Dunedin, New Zealand, Adrian Raeside got his start in cartooning by drawing on washroom walls as a kid. after being expelled from his first (and last) art class at the age of 15, he moved with his parents to England, then on to Canada, where he worked at various jobs, from loading grain ships in Thunder Bay, to surveying on the West Coast.

Editorial cartoonist for the Victoria Times Colonist for over 28 years, Raeside’s editorial cartoons are syndicated internationally, appearing in over 200 newspapers and magazines, from the Los Angeles Times, to Newsweek Japan.

Raeside founded an animation company in 1988, to animate editorial cartoons for CBC television. Over the next 4 years he created, directed and produced dozens of animated shows for networks, among them Turner Broadcasting and Children’s Television Workshop, eventually adapting Jim Henson Muppet characters for animation. Raeside left the production business in 1992, but has remained actively involved in the industry, from adapting the book THE WAY THINGS WORK into an animated series for the BBC, to writing for both seasons 1 & 2 of ATOMIC BETTY.

Raeside is the author of twelve books. Among them: THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD; an irreverent history of Canada, THE DEMENTED DECADE and 5 TWISTED YEARS. He also wrote and illustrated the popular DENNIS THE DRAGON series of children’s books, currently in development as an animated series.

Raeside’s OTHER COAST comic strip was picked up by Creators Syndicate in 2001 and now appears in over 150 newspapers worldwide. The first collection: ‘ROAD RAGE IN BEVERLY HILLS’ was published by Andrews & McMeel in the fall of 2004, with the second book: ‘THIS IS YOUR FIRST ROCK GARDEN, ISN’T IT?’ due out in the fall of 2005.
